Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Twin turbo V8?
No central driving position? ![]() And this is the "New F1?" ![]() Sorry, but...I think the F1 will be staying probably one of the best ever made, produced, desinged supercar with a honest straight simply engine/gearbox layout. That's what supercars should be, not the engines which can be found under the bonnet of "familysedans!", meaning those 8...sylinders........Even 8 is better than 6 but.....if this is "the next F1...".... Only what I'm looking forward is the desing, how it will look. Does it have the same timeless elegance than F1 had.... Sorry, but that's my opinnion.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Mclaren obviously want to keep costs down [unlike when GM was in charge of the F1 and cost wasn't really a factor, weight reduction and driver experience were], and the economy isn't like what it was when the F1 was born, so using the same tub as the MP4-12C across all 3 new Mclaren versions works for them; the difference is this engine will be tweaked, have KERS, the new body will be hand made and few other lovely bits of engineering will round off the 'new' F1 [currently codenamed P12].
Don't expect it to be the new F1, just accept it as the new Mclaren hypercar. Changing your mindset to this new way of thinking will then not disappoint you when the P12 enters fruition. It's gonna be a great car.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Refer to Roger's signature: "There'll never be another..."
It's a true statement in many ways but the real issue is that in 20 years there have been significant changes in the laws governing motor vehicle production all over the world. The three seater layout would be nearly impossible to replicate today and not have a vehicle that stretches the width of the lane in order to survive a side-impact crash test. That lovely V12 engine isn't nearly as efficient or clean as it needs to be to satisfy not just the regulations, but also McLaren's own desire to be environmentally sympathetic and as carbon neutral as possible. It's easy to think of the McLaren F1 as a modern car - it doesn't look visually dated and its performance is still right there with some of the best cars being produced today. That said, it isn't a modern car and its brilliant design and packaging are no match for today's marketplace. I have little doubt that McLaren's 'F1 successor' will be worthy of that title and may impress us in ways we haven't even imagined. I look forward to them unmasking this one and sharing all its technology and performance. In reference again to Roger's signature - 5 years ago I never expected we'd see McLaren in a position to build their own great cars again so the entire operation at McLaren Automotive is quite exciting indeed. >8^) ER |

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
It's so true McLaren can not ignore the market trends and global push for greener cars. technology has improved and is a major factor in even the most basic cars these days. Compare your bog standard family car to the le-mans greats of the 80's the only electrics were the starter alternator and lighting circuits lol. These days you need an electronics degree to fix your car. The new car will not be as totally radical as the F1 was they can not afford that luxury, the F1 was a statement what they need now is cars that will sell and make profit. We enthusiasts may not like it but thats business.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
You are right here, we just have to accept this. Todays world is very much different than it was 20 years ago.
But fortunately; there is history. If these new supercars not give any interest; then (atleast I) look back to the history and enjoy it.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
McLaren have pretty much squashed the rumor that they will unveil P12 in Monaco so it seems we will be waiting a while longer.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Will this car be unveiled before the end of the year?
I wonder if the program will be as exclusive as the F1 program, where they paint little models for customers to decide paint and adjust the car for their size (pedals etc.) |

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
I was told the car would not be shown at Pebble Beach when I was in Italy by the man who heads up the P12 Program and McLaren Special Operations. I can't see him having any reason to lie about that so unless they have made a new decision in the past two months I believe that report to be untrue.
![]() I am still betting on a reveal at this year's Paris Motorshow opposite Ferrari unveiling the Enzo replacement. >8^) ER P.S.: I am planning to be in Monterey again this year so if anyone knows for certain of something going on besides the 12C Spider event at Gooding, please let me know.
