Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?

Hi guys, I've built two belkits fiesta, and all the paints on the rims were eaten by the tyres. I'm currently building my third fiesta and I don't want this happen again. So any suggestions? Can I put some between the tyre and the rim as a barrier to prevent this thing? Cheers!

What paints did you use on the rims? Can you post a picture of the problem it might help to give a better answer?

I wonder if the fresh rubber is leetching something into the paint. Maybe a tougher clear on them. How long did the paint t get to dry before the rubber went on? Maybe the reaction is the paint gassing off and then reacting with the rubber?

First time I used gunze gx1 white with gunze gx100. Next time I used acrylic paint. Still have some problems with pictures but hopefully I can get it done later.

not very long but i think the paint has dried. It took a while for the reaction to happen(several weeks).

Well, the tire is eating the pure styrene as well, I realized a half a year ago! It happened with my Fiesta WRC, I bought it straight away when it got available and did a testfit with the wheels and tires. Left them as they were, I put the kit back to the shelf but 2 years later I realized what happened! I don't want to use those wheels anyway but I wrote a letter for Belkits if they knew about this problem, they asked me to send some pictures, then nothing! I don't know if they solved this issue or if anything ever happened...
Hopefully the Escort won't have this issue!

I've also seen this on my Fiesta kit. Maybe some mould release compound or something. I noticed it on the edge if every rim.
Wheels were painted with gloss enamel spray.

Some vinyl tires have been known to have a chemical reaction w/plastic. This goes back decades. Obviously kit production is new for Belkits, they'll eventually learn a better material to produce the tires.

I'd be using Bare Metal Foil on the rims to keep the tires from eating the styrene and/or paint. I'd also consider painting the inside of the tires in a good coat of flat black acrylic.

You have to cook the Tyres. Thats no joke. I read about this issue in an old modelling book. As ZoomZoom noted this problem is known for decades and our ancients solved it with hot water.

But that of course assumes that Belkits is using the same compounds and techniques that didn't work well 40-50 years ago. They may or may not be. One thing that has changed in the intervening decades since is that chemistry has advanced a bit. As a result, there are countless more options for a kit manufacturer to try to make tyres from. Hard to guess if an old solution would be effective here.

They're probably PVC tires with a very harsh plasticizer. In that case, it will likely destroy lacquers, enamels, styrene, decals and some acrylics.

You could try dropping the tires into boiling water for a few minutes. That may neutralize the offending chemical(s) enough to prevent damage.

I had the same problem with my peugeot 207. The car was already done for about 2 months and then I saw the problem. I think it is a chemical reaction of the tyres making them "sweat". My model was stored in a place with a little light on, so I think that heat makes the reaction. I talked to the people of belkits about the problem but they sid they did not know. Maybe it is possible to cook the tyres with some degreaser. Until now I don't have solution. The only thing I now that my model is clearly damaged due to this problem.
