Could be passlock or ignition fuse. Do you know the passlock code?

hi mark

i checked the ign fuse, thats fine. i checked spark, fine. i checked fuel pressure by pushing the schrader valve on the fuel rail very weak, so i replaced the fuel filter, pressure a bit better, still no start. what is this passlock you speak of?

Re: 2000 grand am 3.4 cranks wont start

I had the same problem the other day. My grand am would crank as if it wanted to start, but it wouldn't start. Turned out to be my battery. Got it replaced and so far so good.

the passlock anti theft system doesnt allow the car to start if it thinks its getting stolen , all newer grand ams have them , you need a 3-4 digit code to unlock it through the stereo. I think you hold the 1 and 4 buttons down till the display flashes. If you own the car then your entitled to that info for free.
They can retreive your code through gm.

I hate to burst your bubble Markase2000, but the sterio doesn't have anything to do with the car not starting! The passlock you are referring to is in the key lock cylinder. If the car cranks but won't start look at the theft light on the dash, if it's blinking, then there's a problem with the passlock system. This can be "bypassed" by leaving the ignition switch in the "on" position for 10min. or until the light is solid.....

Turn Over But No Start?

I own a 2001 Grand Am 6cyl and currently have two problems with it 1 seems to be the same as yours. A couple of days ago I got in to go home and it would turn over fine but not start. I listened for fuel pump ok...and starter was turning it over enough so it wasnt that...i had someone jump me off to see if the batt was to weak...then after reading a few posts on here i turned the key on for 15 min and vuala...also my blinker noise will not stop...it clicks non stop (sound seems to be coming from radio area).. I have noticed that if i apply a little pressure to the end of the turn sig lever (push it in) the noise stops untill i let go.

yea my 2000 Grand AM GT had the same exact problem. I pulled up to my friends house and then not even five minutes later we were leaving to go to the mall, and it just kept turning over. For the past few weeks ive notived that there is a light up on my dash saying "security" so i looked it up in the book and it said to take it to the dealer to get it fixed becasue the passlock has problems. So its the passlock definitly, and since i still have the warrenty to fall back on im gona be all over that.

Re: 2000 grand am 3.4 cranks wont start

I just experienced this problem this morning with my wife's car. I will try the 10/15 min wait as well.

One interesting note is that we just took her car in for the 2000 Grand AM turn signal recall. Now we are experiencing the problem. My wife also noticed that the turn signal was louder after the Dealership fix the car for the recall.

Re: 2000 grand am 3.4 cranks wont start

I have a 2001 was doing the same thing.. It would start one day and not the next time (and it took them a week to find the problem). Because, it was not showing everytime they put it on the computer to find a code... " It was the ignition switch/Key Pick went bad inside." (The part was cheap .. the but the labor was high.)

Same here. The dealership told me that the incorrect switch was installed. So they corrected their mistake and installed the recall fixed one.

If it is too loud it is the dealership installing the incorrect switch for the signals.

Re: 2000 grand am 3.4 cranks wont start

Hi, I had the same problem, my GAGT 01 cranck but won´t start, after many times and problems I changed the Ignition Switch (Part No. 22670487) and the Ignition Cylinder (Part No. 12458191) and the problem disappeared.

My car presented the Thieft lamp On or some times appear just a message regarding Service Engine Soon. If I leave the key on for 15 min the problem momentanilly was solved.

I hope this information can help somebody.
