Luggage Rack Key

We purchased a 2007 Compass today. I noticed the luggage rack crossbars require a key to remove.

Is the ignition key supposed to unlock the bars or is there a different key needed? I couldn't get the ignition key to work and we didn't get any other keys with the vehicle.

A jeep dealer can make you a new key with your vin.number this is not cheap. Call for an estimate.

That's what I was afraid of. We have to have a second ignition key made and I know how much those cost!

There is a four digit number on the lock itself. Is it possible a locksmith could make a key based on that number?

Call a local locksmith and ask they can make most keys.

Check with the previous owner (or get the car lot to do that). They may have it. And if you bought it at a car lot tell them they need to supply you all the different keys for the vehicle or pay you to have them made. Betcha they will have the key for you in a couple days.
