2001 LeSabre AC just stops working, please help!

Hi all,

I have a 2001 Buick LeSabre Ltd. A few days ago, I started the engine then turned on the air. The AC Control Unit on the dash seems to work fine. However, the air did not come out from the vents at all. I checked all the fuses under the back seat and under the hood. No fuses were blown.

Has anyone had any ideas to help? Has anyone seen the same issues posted before? Please help. Thank you very much!

P.S.: The car is is the South where it is really hot at this time. A few weeks before. The two back doors' windows stopped working (cannot roll down, cannot open via switch). When pressing the buttons at driver's door, I can hear the "click" sounds from the back doors, but they still don't work. That makes me think it is the fuses that also cause problem with the AC now too.

Thank you!
H.

Your windows do not use fuses, they use a circuit breaker......as for your rear windows, sure you have not accidentally hit the disable button in the master switch(this disables the rear windows....same circuit breaker powers all windows)? Rare for both windows to go bad at the same time...

So, are you having problems with air flow direction, air flow, or temperature?

So if you choose defrost, heater, or vent, it doesn't come out of the appropriate area?

Or not enough air flow(does it change speeds)?

Or are you getting good cooling with the A/C on?

Thank you, Tech II!

About the back doors: I just checked and they both did not roll down or open whether or not I pressed the "Lock" button at the master switch. I have replaced the master switch and some kinds of modules at the driver doors and back doors (behind the door panel). It did not help.

About the AC: No air comes out from the vents, no matter I turn on air or heat or window defrost. The AC control unit show what I want to turn on, and that is it.

Thanks again!

Does air come out at all?

For example, does it come out of the floor only? Do you have the ability to change speeds?

Does the temp change when you go from extreme hot to extreme cold?

Or is your only problem, the mode? In other words, you have air flow, can change the speed and temp, but you just can't change where you want the air flow to come out of(defrost/vent/heat)?

What you need to find out is, are your actuators controlled by vacuum or by voltage....if vac actuated, then you could have a vacuun leak....

No, air does not come out at all, not anywhere.
Please see this:

I hope that it is something I can repair myself.

Thanks again!

Sounds like the blower motor isn't running. I suspect it's behind the glove box like on the Grand Prix, but can't say definitively. I would find a schematic for that circuit and check it. If you find the blower motor, may be just three screws and one electrical connector to remove it. If you get it out, then it can be check with battery voltage. If it runs, then likely a circuit problem. If not, then likely a bad motor.

My son has the same car. I haven't worked on the A/C, but it also has the problem of the rear windows not working. I once made a feeble attempt to isolate the problem, but it wasn't anything obvious. And it just hasn't yet floated to the top of the priority list.

Hi DrRadar and all,

DrRadar reminds me one very important thing and hits the bull-eye, I think.

Underneath the car there is a hose to drain the condensation water from the AC out to the ground. A week ago, the hose got clogged (happened to my former Buick years ago too). The condensation water got back inside the car, on the passenger side. I lifted the car up, clear the clog, and solved the problem.

The blower motor is very likely damaged by the condensation water. I will try to take it out and check.

Thank you very much!
H.

Re: 2001 LeSabre AC just stops working, please help!

Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know that the problem has been fixed. I bought a new blower motor from Advance Auto Part, connected it while still in my hands. It works, and I knew that the old one died. Taking it out was quite tough as there was just a little room. Putting the new one in was even harder. I had to pull the carpet back as instructed somewhere on the internet.
Thank you for all the great helps!
H.
