1999 Grand Prix GTP - oil leak

Hi all,

I have a oil leak that I can't seem to find the source of. The head gasket corner (driver side firewall corner) has oil on it, I know it is rare but has anyone seen head gaskets leak oil with the motor? (3.8 SC). Or maybe the intake valley gaskets are leaking but it doesn't appear so (and the intake was done within the last 20k miles). The back side of the oil pan (toward rear of car) is wet and the oil seems to be dripping off the transmission pan somehow.

Another thing is the knock sensor between the block and transmission seems wet, not sure if the oil is coming from above that or not, would the knock sensor leak oil or coolant? (or nothing)

Let me know what you think.

Nope, those are dry. I think it is the rear main, this will be the third rear main that I've had to put in this car (106k miles on the car)

Man, that sucks. You gotta pull the engine to change that - right? What was the failure mechanism on the first two? I would look for a defect that's causing premature failure or an installation issue.

I'll pull the transmission. The others were replaced by the dealer, they must be doing something wrong.

This time I will do it myself!

I didn't know there was room to pull transmission without moving motor. Getting it from the bottom? Won't the frame prevent taking it out completely?

You need to support the engine and remove the frame, then the transmission can come out. Just like the dealer does it, lol.
