A/C Compressor Screaming 1993 TransSport
I didn't have time to replace the A/C compressor and reload the refrigerant and all that so I removed the compressor and replaced it with an 'A/C Compressor Bypass Pulley' $60.00 from the auto parts store. There were no shorter serpentine belts listed for non A/C applications. The pulley was easy to install but the compressor was a devil to get at for removal. It is down underneath. There was a very tricky mounting bolt that I had to use two or three 6 inch 3/8 drive extensions with a U joint between the first and second extension. This was VERY VERY tricky. I am going to recommend that you remove what you have to from the top side in order to gain access from the top. It might include removing the radiator shroud and some hoses, and whatever.
I used bolt cutters to remove the coolant hose pipes because I have no intentions of ever replacing the compressor (in our climate we might use A/C half a dozen times a year). DO NOT CUT THE LINES OF A SYSTEM THAT IS FULL OF REFRIGERANT. Have the system purged. Note: Maybe there could be a shorter belt available from another application like a Buick car or something. A shorter belt might allow you to just leave the compressor in place and bypass the pulley. It depends on the serpentine configuration. Please let me know how it goes for you, even if it is years down the road. I don't care how old the thread is.

Re: A/C Compressor Screaming 1993 TransSport
yes the info about the 3.8 without the A/C was not listed for TS because all of 3.8TS came with A/C. I had found it in the Buick or Oldsmobile listings. 72.5", PN 725K6 . I do have a 72" belt that I use for winter. the 1815mm (71.5") mentioned above is a bit too short in my opinion because my 72 is indeed a bit shorter than ideal and i have to crank the tensionser a bit tight... (the ideal 72.5 was not available at the store I went to)

I wish I wouldn't have been in such a hurry to get the job done. I could have saved a bunch of time and effort talking to AF. Haste makes waste. Talk to you later.

Re: A/C Compressor Screaming 1993 TransSport
Hi! I wanted to add.
If to deliver 72" or 72.5", I think, through the 500 miles times are will stretch. And it will sag. A 71.5" times are, it is difficult put on, but after 500 miles times are accept the desired shape and the tension It is written so the people who set times are. Good luck to all! |
