4500 Mile Trip, Getting 1993 Astro Ready

I'm planning on going for a trip this summer and I have to use my old Astro Van. My GF has been using it for school and I want to get it a full tune up, replace the shocks and get new tires for this trip (and of course oil and brake fluid as well as new pads and what not.) I was wondering what else I need to do for this thing to get it road savvy for something so old? I've had to do little work on it and It runs great, but it's so old now I'm worried that it's going to fail in the middle of the trip. I remember I did this before with the fan ball baring for the engine locking up and stalling the van, thankfully I was at a town when it happened and not the middle of the Nevada. What kinds of things should I bring along with me to help make this possible?
