Talking 1998 grand voyager low idle

I took the van on a road trip and the engine seems like it wants to stall at lights. the idle stays at 500 rpm or so most of the time while at stops. there appears to be no way to adjust the idle and there is no Czech injun light on.. what could the problem be? the engine is a 3.8l

Either a vacuum leak or the idle air control valve or it's orifice in the throttle body. Does the idle rpm increase when you turn on the A/C or turn the steering wheel? If not, remove the air duct from the throttle body and spray the area thoroughly with throttle body cleaner. Make sure you spray behind the throttle plate. That's where the orifice is.

Re: 1998 grand voyager low idle

thanks for your reply, I sprayed some carb cleaner through the passage ways in the throttle body(on the bottom) like you said and it is still not any better. I went through the vacuum lines until all the whistling went away and it still idles low.

Re: 1998 grand voyager low idle

you have a low oil pressure warning. check the oil in your engine as they say oils aint oils, You need a low viscosity oil in colder climates if you change the oil pipe i think your problem is solved...

I am not sure exactly but I think I know what you are saying Tom. I put 10w40 in there as I remember from another caravan it was 5w30 written on a sticker under the hood. if you think that will fix it I will give it a try.
