Belkits Ford Fiesta RS WRC Abu Dhabi

This is my latest build. It"s the Belkits Ford Fiesta RS WRX. The model was mostly build straight from the box. I only used some studio 27 carbonfiber decal on the seats and the inside of the doors.
The build was on commision for a Belgian Modelling Magazine Art Of Modelling.

There were no problems during the build. All fitted without a problem. The quality of the decals was also very good.

Re: Belkits Ford Fiesta RS WRC Abu Dhabi

Slightly off topic but it kinda boggles my mind that the Fiesta is now a big enough car to base a WRC car on.
I mean, once upon a time, the WRC cars were based on cars one segment higher/bigger

i.e the Focus and Escort.

Oh yes!

And once upon a time, rally cars could be whatever the manufacturer decided:
-RWD/rear engine (Alpine-Renault, Porsche 911...),
-RWD/rear-central engine (Renault 5 Turbo, Stratos, 037...),
-RWD/front engine (all different kinds of Fiats, Fords, Opels, BMWs...)
-FWD/front engine (VW Golf, Saabs, Ritmos...)

They could have 4, 6 or 8 cylinders, turbos, compressors or normal-aspirated engines... And still they were all winners !

And now for a little criticism way more on-topic : I like your build a lot but as a true long-time WRC-afficionado (really ? ), I wouldn't (personnally) have used the gravel suspensions/wheels and the lights pod (this particular car was supposed to have entered an all-day, all-tarmac event).

No problems. I'm not really a hardcore rally fan, but I was asked by a magazine to build this kit with the extra gravel set.
So I don't have a clue if this is fully correct.

For sure a magazine I will never read !!
asking to build, with a publishing purpose, a totaly inacurate model is a complete no sens for a car model magazine to me !
What is it supposed to tell and/or teach to readers...??

It's really a pain because your build is really great except that "special ask" from the magazine !

I understand your opinion, but I don't think that every modeller is in the need to build a complete accurate model, wether it is an AFV, plane, bike, car or something else.
That's also one of the reasons that many AFV modellers are switching to 'what if' models, because at a lot of contests the only thing that matters to a model is if there are the same amount of nuts and bolts on a model before being rewarded with a medal. Even if the model is one of the best in competition.

I think that everyone has to chose for themself when modelling a kit.

Nevertheless thanx for the reply. Always better then the ooh's and the aaah's.

I agree with you, not everyone is a fanatic of accuracy.
Accuracy is a myth which I've been loosing myself in for years not finishing any models and I don't expect that from a magazine, but as I said I really don't understand their aim when asking for deliberately going against event and real car realities...
I always thought that model magazines are made to show us the "good way" of building things, I don't inevitably mean by that the totaly accurate model, but at least what and how it has to be regarding its history, chronology, event entering...
Fantasy on a road car can be fun, but I don't really see the sens for a tarmac rally car to be built gravel setup in a publishing purpose, especially when it's so well built !

Would love to see you building other rally cars, because not being a rally fan seems not to be a big problem for you to build pure jewels !!

Re: Belkits Ford Fiesta RS WRC Abu Dhabi

From the day this model was released and I saw the decals, I was convinced that it couldn't be built to a good standard using the decals alone and that painting the colours was the best option. That was until I saw your model. You have proven me wrong because it looks fantastic, wrinkle free and super glossy and smooth. To say you made an excellent job with the decals would be selling you short, you did a great job with the decals..!!! As for the accuracy debate, well sometimes I try to do accurate, but other times I just build as I like and try to have fun when I build and be happy with the end result. I would be very happy with this as an end result

I always wanted to build a ken block car . I don't have one in my pile, but I do have the decals for a Rossi Ford Fiesta. Maybe this will
be the next rallycar. Or Maybe the car of all cars (my opinion) the Subaru Impreza WRC.

I agree with "rallymaster" ... nice model, but unfortunately reduced quality using the wrong set (gravel) to rally. There was no need to change the set - the kit is the correct kit already .... only my opinion.
