The Better Path

I got a question for you guys, about what path I should take with a 5th gen prelude. I'm not a drag racer, I'm more interested in touring cars.

Would it overall ignoring cost be better to either:

Drop a turbocharged s2000 motor into the prelude and make the car rear wheel drive?

-or-

Stick with the front wheel drive and get a spoon or some other high quality JDM motor and work from there?

I haven't gotten a prelude yet, I like to figure out what path I'm gonna take before I have the means to take it.

Edit: Grammar

If you have the means:

Turbo S2k RWD conversion.

GOOOOD LUCK!

be ready to cough up some dough for the RWD conversion, bro. that ain't gonna be cheap. i would just rather get a RWD car to begin with. not only do you have to customize a rear differential and all thatyou have to mofify the whole rear suspension, you have turn the motor longitudely, which is a chore in and of itself. and frankly, the S2000 engine is not a good engine choice for the prelude. stick with the H22. the s2000 gearbox/tranny on the other hand would be sweet in the prelude.

but like Prelewd said, if you have that kind of money to spend, why not you know?

A lot of money for parts, or labor? Im planning on completly gutting the prelude when I get it. Im also planning on instaling a roll cage for safety and stifining. I know cutting a hole down the middle of the car for a drive shaft is going to weaken the frame.

Thanks for the opinions keep em comming!

C: All of the above.

Upon second thought of this, I'd say you should supercharge the S2k engine rather than turbo it. Blown S2k powered prelude sounds better than Turbo S2k powered prelude.. Wait... they both sound good.

Are you really going to do something like this? Many people have all these wild plans, but never actually act on them. "yea, i'm savin up for a turbo, blah blah blah.." Don't bust our balls man.

I would like to do this, but not all at once, im thinking 4 or 5 years to complete the project, heres my plan.

Get a wrecked 5th Gen Prelude, perferably with extensive body or mechanical damage but with no damage to the frame. Hoping to spend about 3 or 4K.

Get a S2000 again with extensive body damage or interior damage with as little possible damage to anything under the hood, or the rear axel. I would like to spend under 5K on the s2000.

Make the switch and get the prelude to work with the S2K motor.

Fix the body, and strip the interior of the prelude, sell whatever I can from the S2K, and unneeded interrior parts from the Prelude. I would like to break even on this step, ex, parts sold equals parts bought.

Get the prelude streetable with the s2k motor.

-What I would like to get done in 4 to 5 years.

Enhance the performance of the S2k Prelude.

I am planning on doing a lot of the labor myself, I know it will take longer that way and it will be harder on me, but I want it that way.

Im 16 so I still live at home, no living expensces YAY!

Am I crazy

Not so much crazy.. I just don't think you know what you are getting yourself into. You need to have much more from the S2k than just the engine and rear axle.. Electronics, driveshaft, etc.. Who knows how the prelude frame will even handle that.. You could be doing quite a bit of welding.

I say plan everything out before you even consider buying everything. Find a wrecked S2k, see how much that is.. Good luck finding one under 5K. Same with the lude. I'm sure this car will be very nice the way you have it in your head, but there's many many obstacles to overcome first.

The way I have it in my head is something that screams like a formula one and takes off like a top fuel

Seriously though, I know its going to be really complex. Bascialy I want to scoop everything from under the hood of the s2000 and stick it in the Prelude and make it fit, and have it all still work after being moved. If I use the stock s2k ECU it will probably be really confused.

For me the driveshaft is the real questionmark, I dont think a stock S2k shaft will fit a prelude, the end result for me is I need to find one thats fits or fabricate one.

Im expecting a lot of welding, I know people that are good welders, and im totaly open to learning myself.

The real thing im looking forward to in the end is putting the s2K emblum on the back of the prelude making people think its total rice, then doing a burnout the only way a rear wheel drive can.
