the vin idea wont work ... because your vin is also etched into the engine bay

Note: Your engine bay should not normally contain a lizard.

Why dont you just fix whatever is wrong with it so it passes the emissions test? The laws/tests are there for a reason.

Mine failed, I had to get a full tune up done, new plugs, wires, dizzy cap/rotor, o2 sensor, and cat.

I've seen treatments that you can put into your gas tank that guarantee you'll pass. Canadian Tire sells them up here. I'm not sure how well they work and what sort of long term damage they do but you might want to try one of those if you haven't.

Edit: found a link to it - http://shop.store.yahoo.com/rodi/ch05063.html

I think the issue is the b16 is a DJM engine, so it fails the visual test.

If I switched VINs around...I wouldn't want to get busted if they noticed they were different (ie engine bay & dash)...isn't that like a felony or some shit ??

because to do this in california he would need to do an OBD-1 conversion and use all the del slow emissions equipment

Melt, is that an Alligator Lizard? We used to have those here in Texas, but I haven't seen one in YEARS!

i dont know about other places but the emissions inspectors here never even popped my hood, they scanned some sticker in my door jam then put a box on my hood and revved the car... As for the b16, i thought those were suppose to pass emmisions alot cleaner than non-vtec motors.

this is my only thoughts....if they did pop the hood, they should notice the dual cams. but it's been 7 yrs since i dealt with that shit, so i dunno. we don't have to deal with smog here in OR
