Any ideas?

Hey - I just found these forums today and I have to say there is a lot of information here.. wow. I figured since this is a community I might as well ask what you all think I should do..

I own an 02 Mustang.. nothing special - stock everything with an automatic V6. It goes as fast as I need it to, but it definitely doesn't put out like the modified cars around here. Trying to race people is a joke, but it seems people enjoy picking on me because of the fact that it is a Mustang.

Well, I'm tired of losing to riced up Hondas and Toyotas. I've got this whole idea going where I'd rather be fast and look slow, rather than look fast and go slow. In other words, I want to build a "sleeper". I'm not too sure what make / model of car I'd like to build, but I'm really going for the "least likely to be really fast" variety.

The cars I'm specifically thinking about are either a Dodge Neon or a Chevy Astrovan. I'm worried about weight problems in the Astrovan and I'm worried about not having enough space in the Neon. Any suggestions on where to start? (Appearance really does mean nothing to me, I'm sorta looking to spend about 2-5k to get a car and 25-30k on the engine and parts).

First and foremost, welcome to the boards! Glad to have another new member anxious to learn and contribute to our community
I say go the Neon route. Drop in a 2.4L(not sure on the literage, but I think that's it) Stratus motor, then turbocharge the hell out of it. A member here has done it, and his dyno sheet and times are impressive to say the least. DOHCNEON, where are you!!?
Other options are to leave the Neon motor in the bay, and build and turbocharge it.
The Astrovan thing, unless you just reeeaaalllyyy want to do it, will probably be more trouble than it's worth. Then again with a 30k budget, almost nothing is out of the question It can be done, I've seen some sort of van, I THINK it was an Astrovan, go 12s. I'm sure a bunch of people in here have seen the vid.

Welcome to AF!

I would go with a 1st gen Neon and put some F/I and keep the stock look. They make a pretty good sleeper. If you go with a van, forget the astro, get a Chrysler turbocharged mini-van. You can get those in the 12s for pretty cheap.
