Transmission shift solenoids

98 Windstar 3.0L engine AX4S tranny 233K miles.

NO TRANSMISSION CODES or engine codes either.

I used the FORSCAN on my laptop tonight. Using the oscillascope showing the shift solenoids and I noticed that at times Solenoid 1 would be ON along with the solenoid 3 being ON while doing about 40 MPH. I noticed also that the solenoid 1 will also turn OFF and back ON while also doing 40 MPH.

At times I get a pinging from the engine while turning corners or going around roundabouts while accelerating, when it pings I let off the acceleration and again accelerate and it seems to downshift and the pinging stops.

I have not driven enough to get it to ping while I have the laptop hooked up to see if this is the case when it pings or not. I am thinking that these solenoids are acting against each other when this happens.

What do you transmission people think????? Really would appreciate input .

thsnks

Re: Transmission shift solenoids

hi bro, well, you could save the readings of the transmission and any other module in your computer while you drive, just in case is neccesary.

now, i have to ask,you scan if for troubleshooting something or just for curious?

if you do it for troubleshoooting, you could also post the symptoms.

an a little recomendation for the forscan, you could scan and store the following parameters of the transmission if you want trouble shooting somthing:

-TCC status
-TCC solenoid status
-Input shaft RPM
-Output shat RPM
-Status of three shift solenoids (i see that you have scanned that yet)
-Desired gear (it says somthing like that)
-Desired ratio
-Detected ratio (this last two comes int this format 2.771:1 for example)
-Desired slippage
-Detected slippage
-Temperature

with al that parameters you could properly diagnose your transmission i do it, because i fell mine go to neutral when it should go to third, or somtimes i felt a little slippage in third, so i scan it and doesnt have DTC, then i see this tree paramters.

Desired gear: 3
Desired ratio 1:1
Detected ratio 2:1 varying to 1.5:1 if i dont accelerate hard, also on the test i accelerate hard and then a DTC was stored, it was "incorrect ratio in third gear"

let me found and application chart of the solenoids in the AXODE/AX4S that i sotred in my computer when i was rebulding my tranny, it should be there in some place.

Greetings
