Chevy K1500 5.0 L wont start
Hello i was wondering if someone out there could possibly help me diagnose an issue i am currently having with my pickup. Here is the backround info, I drove it all day yesterday to and from work and after work i pressure washed the engine on it. Drove it home with no issues whatsoever. Needed to run to the grocery store this morning drove it there with out any issues and then went to leave. It started right up and i started heading home and drove it about 50 yds and then it died. It wont start now and is sitting in the parking lot at the grocery store, so until i get it home i wont be able to do anything to technical with it such as fuel pressure and testing the intensity of the spark etc. I had some starting fluid with me so i tried a few shots of that to the tbi and it didnt make much of a difference. I let it sit for a while and then tried it again. The second time i tried it i could get it to fire initially and then it would die. So I kept trying it and after pumping the gas pedal and cranking on it for 10 or 15 seconds i could get it to fire and "run" but only as long as i kept cranking on it the second i let off it would die. The exhaust coming from it when it was "running" smelled like bad gas that had been sitting in a gas can for years, I dont know if that is a combo of the starting fluid as well as the fact that I dont have a catalytic converter on it. So my initial thought was it wasnt getting any spark since i sprayed the starting fluid in there and still couldnt get it to turn over, but now i am puzzled because i can get it to turn over but only while the starter cranks it. I just replaced the entire distributor as well as the ignition coil about 3 months ago. As well as the fuel pump about a year ago. Another thing that baffles me is even after i got it to turn over when cranking it, i tried to give it a few shots of starting fluid to then rule out whether or not it was fuel related, and in my experience if you give it starting fluid and it has spark it will run smooth and like its supposed to until the starting fluid is all burned up. Thats not the case with my issue though. Starting fluid makes no difference one way or the other. So what could possibly cause this issue i am having? Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Chevy K1500 5.0 L wont start
Wet ignition seems likely.
Defective plug wires (poor insulation) or wet distributor cap and rotor. WD40 is your friend. This is about the only problem I would recommend WD40 as a probable "fix" for. Spray the plug wires, spray the inside of the distributor cap, and the rotor. Don't get the plug wires out-of-order when you remove them (pull them off ONE AT A TIME to spray them.)
