96 Xj Odd no start issue ( long story Sorry)
Ok
so one day while i was coming back from the store i went to start my rig up and Nothing happened, no radio, nothing. it looked like the battery was dead. there was an advance autoparts across the parking lot so i took my battery out and had them test it. It was good and was putting out the correct CCA. Put the battery back in tried to start it, i heard a Click noise and again no power no radio headlights etc.. So i thought ok maybe the starter was bad, took it out ran to the part store, it tested out good. I put the starter back in hooked everything back up tried to start it CLICK same issue looked like the battery was dead, after about 2 hours of messing with everything i could think of it started up and i drove to the parts store and a guy who worked there noticed that my positive cable was corroding to the point of coming apart from the terminal, so i bought new battery post got home replaced the old ones with the new ones. It seemed to solve the problem until a week later, i would try and start it and again i hear the click and all power is gone, i pop the hood take the negative terminal off put it back on tighten everything down and it starts, a week goes by again, same issue. now it happens more often than before I am not sure why taking the battery cable off and putting it back on solves the issue only then to have it do it again several days later i did notice that my rear backing lights don't come on so i thought maybe it was my NSS but i tried to start it in neutral and nothing happened also why does it appear that ive lost all power like i have a dead battery. i know this was a long story but the devil is in the details |

How many miles?
Has it ever cut out while running? Did you replace the entire positive battery cable? Check the cable going to the starter for corrosion? Negative battery cable corroded?

290K, not while driving,i just cut the old positive terminal off and replaced, as well as the negative side. I thought about replacing the entire harness on the positive cable but i am not sure jeep even sells something like that or even if its sold online the lower half of the cable seems to be ok its really hard to tell due to the plastic cover that goes around the wire |

Re: 96 Xj Odd no start issue ( long story Sorry)
So i just replaced the entire positive cable with an 2GA replacement from advance auto. Its a beefier cable than stock and it has resolved the issue. The dealer no longer carries the positive cable that has the plastic harness to connect to the starter. You can just dremmel off the small wire that is connected to the harness ( its a green wire) and reuse that wire, and then just bend the connector on the new cable to an L shape so that it connects to the starter easily
