Talking A couple F575 EVO II: Gio and Richy's new girls

First of all this thread is dedicated to RobiJ: not only a great modeler but one of the best friend of us in the modeling field.

Me and my Scuderia's partner Richy (that you must start to recognize now since his last terrific finished projects like the carbon Murci, the Abarth, the 550, teh A4.....) decided to push the bar a bit higher and try something cool. We got the chance to get something that is not yet produced, and may be wouldn't be in production, by one of the best manufacturer: a couple of 1/24 Tecnomodel 575 GTC EVO II.
So it would be another shared thread, after those with Andy, Steve and Alex I guess I choose another challenging partner to do mess

I think most of you have in mind Prini's build and articles, and Sasa's WIP, no more words are needed to describe this kit: it deserved the difinition of "Resin Tamiya kit" due the perfect fitting and the care showed in the job.

Kits are not in production in 1/24 so we didn't got decal sets. Luckyly Tecnomodel owner, Ilario, given us a cople of 1/43 decal sets as templates to start the design job. We designed our preferred liveries, Richy liked the Inno GPC car and I done for me the DHL, ever from the same racing team. We got our decals sets printed trough ALPS system: anything other needed? Yes may be few custom PE, but we'll discuss later.

We didn't find so much references about our 575: following a quick presentation of both the cars:

Richy Inno 575 EVOII:

And my DHL 575, same team:

(noticed Lo Rouge???? amazing, I must go there with a Caterham...)

Re: A couple F575 EVO II: Gio and Richy's new girls

I started by few surgery, I tried to achieve steering weels. After the Pirelli stratos experience I feel myself ready enough to start to mill down the precious Tecnomodel body shell

But.... I must report that my build started by another point:

I was standing wondering how house a enzo engine in the belly, calculating any single cubic inch to mill down (the kit is literally a havy brick..) when it falled down...... I was desperated but I was able to recover it perfectly...... OMG....

My goal speaking of fron wheels would be that:

So I empty the fenders to make room for the big OZs.
This time I taken it easy and used a CLK GTR steering system, with custom upper arms by copper and lower arm by reinforced plastic:

With this system I would be able not only to achieve steering wheels but also hopefully to set a bit the camber setting. The metal part you see is the kit wheel's rod, that I'll discard. Brakes are ever from same CLK GTR, with some PE improovment. Disc and calipers in this 575 kit are TBH (and gentle) horrible and trough PE, only negative point in a fantastic kit.

There are few differences between the 575 EVOII and a previous EVO: front splitter, hood's vents, rear bumper's vents. My spoiler was the kind round one of the 575 GTC, so I managed to reshape it to the correct profile:

Re: A couple F575 EVO II: Gio and Richy's new girls

Body shell prep was quick, just 3-4 sand+primer steps to correct miror faults (some very thiny air bubbles underside), than I painted the base color using a Zero white, followed by the 3 masked colors: Lechler Giallo Modena (may be a bit less "corn cream" (that we call "polenta") than the DHL yellow but looks no bad), Lechler Rosso Corsa and Zero Scuderia's R5 Black. (they are all matt acrylics and compatible).

I must say that it's the most intricated livery I done, and things are even harder for my partner with his Innomobile

And finally the decals sets: I designed both the sets and sent to a service to be printed by ALPS: I done a couple of both since the ALPS white has ever less coverage than needed, so we'll use logos and stencils double when needed.

Re: A couple F575 EVO II: Gio and Richy's new girls

Here I am, like Gionc I decid e to start with the body, which is the most challenging job in this project.

I sand down the whole body with sand paper 1000 grit.
Then I spay an heavy coat of Tamiya white primer to check for body minor foults (a couple of bubble, nothing else).
I smooth the primer with 1500 sand paper under current water and I rescribe the panel lines with an exacto blade.
So I am ready to spray the body with Zero racing White.

I start masking the white areas to spray Rosso Corsa 322 from Zero

Here the body after three mist coats.

Re: A couple F575 EVO II: Gio and Richy's new girls

Now it's time to mask again to spray the dark green.
I choose a Duplicolor green, I decanted it from can to use with airbrush.

Now I have to choose what doing with the light green, to mask again the whole body(for the third time ), or use the decal....
Obviously I have choosen the tedious way...

I masked again to spray the light green from Duplicolor

Now the Innomobile is ready for clear coat.

Thanks for looking.

Riccardo
