Another problem I have now with my 2000 Taurus is the heating/ac not working. There's no heat or air at all. I'm trying to see if it is easy for people I know to fix and to buy parts myself to avoid going to an auto shop. I was told it was the blower motor and resistor. Now every time I turn on the heater. I notice there's a noise up front that goes on and off every few seconds and the car keeps pushing forward on it's own. If I let it just roll slowly it will move forward quicker every few seconds like something is making it jump on it's own. What could that be? Just something related to the heating not working?

With the starting issues I had I haven't experienced any problems in almost two months. Ofcourse, the fear is still there due to what happened in the past and thinking that starting problems are not good.

When you say there is no heat or A/C, are you making that determination just because there is no noticeable air flow through the vents, or do you get airflow it is just lukewarm regardless of the temp setting?

Since you've been told the issue is blower motor and/or resistor, it sounds like your concern is due to lack of air flow, assuming the folks that told you what the problem is actually looked at the car and know what they are talking about. For no air flow, the blower motor and/or motor speed resistor would be logical suspects. Keep in mind though that the resistor only comes in to the circuit for the lower blower speeds. For high speed the resistor is out of the circuit.

For the noise up front and the increase in vehicle speed, I'd suspect you're hearing the A/C compressor clutch cycling (although that should only cycle when the ambient temperature is above 30 degrees F or so). When the A/C compressor is engaged, the Idle Air Control (IAC) is supposed to allow more air to bypass the closed throttle plate to compensate for the added load from the compressor. If the IAC is slow to react when the compressor shuts off, the idle speed might remain higher than desired.

No heat or air coming out at all and no sounds like there would be. If I put my hands up to it I might feel a very very slight touch of heat. I don't know if this think that makes the car push more forward is another concern or just something associated with the heating/air system not working. It doesn't happen if I have it off.

Is your blower blowing anything?

If the blower motor is not working on any speed, including high speed, the problem is likely either the power to the blower motor or the blower motor itself.

Do you have a test light or multimeter that you can use to test for power to the blower motor?

I guess you have about 3 choices then:
1) Replace the blower motor (with no guarantee this will get the blower working again).
2) Purchase a $5 test light to properly diagnose the issue. A test light is better here than a multimeter since it will load the circuit and help also identify if there is a corrosion issue in the wiring.
3) Take the car to a shop with the proper equipment and skills to perform the diagnosis and repair.
