Permaplate
Have any of you ever heard of a dealership offered product called Permaplate? http://www.permaplate.com/Default.asp
My parents had the dealership apply it on their new car, and I was wondering what you guys thought of the quality of it, as well as the claims that you dont need to wax your car?

Though I don't know personally about Perma-Plate I have seen others write about it. Some good:
"...Personally, I've had nothing but killer results; no swirls, great depth etc. At the end of the day, permaplate has been a killer product." and some luke-warm to not so good: "If Perma-Plate is insinuating that it lasts the life of the car then I have proof they failed! My 94 Mustang had it applied when it was new and it didn't seem to help anymore than regular wax to prevent swirls etc. (check claims on website)" IMHO I'd stay away from any product(s) that makes such claims as "Never wax again". These "too good to be true" claims are usually just that. Perma-Plate is, most likely, a type of polymer product. And while polymers do last a long time the don't last indefinitely. My biggest problem with polymers is they just lack that depth of shine you get with a good 'ol Carnauba wax. But hopefully your folks will love their Perma-Plate.

Re: Permaplate
Had mixed results with it on our 2004 Lexus. In the early years of ownership the dash was cracking and I made the mistake of having Perma Plate address the issue instead of going to the manufacturer. The mistake is that I let the problem get repaired by Perma Plate rather than deal with the manufacturer. Not sure the product is that great a deal. Better to just have the extended dealer warranty and get on them at the first sign of an issue. Seems for the 2004 Lexus RX 330 they had dash issues and if I had tackled it with the manufacturer at the first sign of a problem would have gotten a full dash replacement. My delay in addressing it directly with the manufacturer got me only a 50% payment for the dash from the manufacturer. So the long and short of it is that just take care of the car and maintain the extended warranty and go as high up as you can with the manufacturer at the first sign of a problem.
