2003 2.4L Camry A/C clutch replacment

Anybody ever change the clutch out with the compressor still in the car? This is for a friend's Camry. I've done it on several domestics before. It looks like if I pull the alternator and unbolt the compressor it can be rotated up and give access to the clutch without removing the freon and taking it out of the car. And yes, the clutch is weak. I've checked the relay and messed with the air filter which are the common culprits on these. With power straight to the clutch it won't engage unless it's stone cold.
