The Garage I took my Aveo to for power steering fluid issue...
I had a problem with my steering fluid being white (earlier post) I took it to a garage and they flushed it twice , changed the seal... it looks more tannish than white now... they used a synthetic brand BG power clean... which is a clear tan color.... now the garage is advising that I may want to replace the pump etc,,, which will run me about $700... the car drives and steers normally, with no weird noises or anything to indicate there is anything wrong.... any suggestions about what I can do? should I just keep flushing it every month? should I take it somewhere else? thanks for your responses...

Is the shop you're working with affiliated with one of our GM Dealerships? If so I'm happy to check into this further with you if you like.

Re: The Garage I took my Aveo to for power steering fluid issue...
Hi, I am not sure if they are affiliated with GM, the place is called Joe's Garage in Eugene Oregon. They are well respected and trusted around here. they flushed my it twice with this BG Power Clean Steering fluid, which is tan in color... and replaced the seal.... now it just looks light tan/oily in color... it is not white and creamy like it was when I took it in there on Thursday... I do know they called the chevrolet dealership here in town and talked to their contact person about the issue.. my car does not make any noises, it's still very easy to steer and runs like it always has..... so I hesitate to spend hundreds of dollars right now if it's running and sounding fine... because they were just guessing that the pump may be causing the fluid to still look somewhat whitish....maybe I can just flush it again next month... someone replied on my original post that Chevy Aveos use Dexron VI trans fluid,,,, does it matter that it was flushed with the BG Synthetic power fluid??

Re: The Garage I took my Aveo to for power steering fluid issue...
Hello there Aminor7,
I'm sure that Joe's is a very reliable shop, but I searched and see that they are not affiliated with GM and so I myself will not be able to follow up on this with them. I understand that you're satisfied with your vehicle's operation at the moment and do not want to create any pressure to visit a dealership if you are not looking to do so. In regards to the fluid type, all I can advise is that the manual for the 2007 Aveo states: "Use only T-IV Automatic Transmission Fluid". Let me know if I can be of further assistance as I'm happy to do all I can! Sarah, GM Customer Service |
