Light Duty Versus Heavy Duty

I am a little embarrassed to ask this, but how do I tell if my '05 is Heavy or Light Duty. Its an Ext Cab with Factory Tow Pkg. Is there a Production Code or a digit I look for in the VIN?

Re: Light Duty Versus Heavy Duty

If your '05 were Heavy Duty, it would be labled a "1500HD". It would have the 6.0l, eight bolt 3/4 ton hubs, the bigger 3/4ton diff and suspension.

with your question I would gues your talking about a 1500 model with the 5.3L engine. the tow package gives you some electrical hookups . the HD would have a heavy duty spring package.

since you just purchased this change all the drivetrain fluids . transmission/transfercase/front and rear diff's.

good luck with it . better than the 2007 on up models.
