autoride system leaks?

I'm looking to buy a 2003-2oo6 Yukon Xl Denali. Most have 70-130,000 miles on them that I've seen. On a couple the Autoride sytem pump needs to run a bit at startup. One or two owners claim its only if the truck sits for a week or so. Either way, is it ok for the system to need to pump up for a few seconds, or should they always hold air for any length of time?

What is aceptable. What is gonna cost me a small fortune to replace/rebuild???

Re: autoride system leaks?

It is not unsual for those to run a few seconds at start up to achieve their "prime" pressure. You can check the boots on the shocks with some soapy water in a spray bottle. Just priced some OEM shocks for a Yukon like that, 616.00each, yeah thats for ONE! If and when they set a C0660 it'll run another 535.00 for a ELC compressor assy because the exhaust valve is shorted or open.

Yes...the replacement cost is scary. Is there a meaningful way to test the system or shocks?

I also have a 2005 Suburban (LT) that had the autoride system. I tried to see if it worked by putting about 1000+ ponds of kids and stuff in the back, but couldn't see any difference. When I took it for new tires they found that the whole bracket for the pump activator was missing --- therefore the system could not have been working. I put HD spring/shock overloads in the back, and when my son got the AR shocks out he found he could push them down without too much resistance. We never could get the pump to work anyway.

So, for any of these Yukons, is there a guaranteed way to see if the system actually works?

Re: autoride system leaks?

If you hear on run at start up, then quit, and there is no "service suspension system" message on the dash, it's probably ok. Like I said eariler, you can spray the boots of the shocks with a soapy water mix and look for bubbles, if there are bubbles, the boot is leaking. Most of the problem I have seen with those is the exhaust valve on the compressor.
