Possible Half Shaft Problem???
My wife was driving our '03 Windstar this afternoon, she stopped at a stoplight and when it turned green she stepped on the gas, about 1/2 way through the corner she felt and heard a "snap" or "pop" and the car rolled to a stop and every gear seemed as if it was in neutral and we had to have the car towed. No fluid leakage visible anywhere, any ideas what the issue could be? My first thought is a half shaft may have broken, also the "Trac Off" light on the dash has been on for a while and it can't be manually turned off with the button. Any ideas? 116k miles

Re: Possible Half Shaft Problem???
Happened to me once on a hard right turn but that's because I didn't seat the replacement properly. Tough lesson to learn but luckily only cost me a tow. The windstar doesn't seem to leak trans-fluid when you pull the shafts although some will likely come out on the tow. I recommend replacing with a rebuilt OEM - best source is to ask for a REBUILT unit at AUTOZONE.
