2003 eclipse 2.4 cam crank codes check engine light

I have a 2003 eclipse with a 2.4 4cyl in it. Runs and drives fine and only has 78m but the check engine light is on. Codes are po335 and po340. Cam and crank sensor codes. I purchased it this way. I can unplug the cam sensor while running and it will stay running. If I shut it off It will fire once but will not start. If I unplug the crank sensor it dies. They bolth seem to be working. If the codes get cleared they will not come back on untill the car is shut off and restarted. Any ideas? I have ordered a new cam sensor just to try but it will not get here till the end of next week. Also it seems to idle a bit low 650 rpm. If I turn on the air it idles at 850 rpm.

It is possible that the t-belt isn't installed properly. I would check timing marks and make sure the belt isn't off a tooth or two. The cam sensor is a fine tuning sensor, the computer uses it for misfire monitoring and fine injector timing. The crank sensor is required and will not run without it.

Check out the timing marks. I believe they are in the right spots. New cam sensor did not change anything. I think my next step is to order a crank sensor and install it. The engine is already apart it would be easy to install. Any other ideas? I hate just throwing parts at it but it is still cheaper than bringing the car in.

The marks all look good. Did you unbolt the crank sensor? How old are the two belts?

Timing belts were replaced about 12000 miles ago. So I was told. They are goodyear belts and look to be in good shape. I unbolted the crank sensor to see if was rubbing on anything. Not sure what else it could be. As soon as I get a new crank sensor I will let you know if that takes care of it. If that does not work maybe next I will try a computer. Any other thoughts?

I wouldn't do a computer, it is very rare to have trouble with them on these cars. The crank sensor usually doesn't take damage very well so it would be very noticeable if it had. Make sure you don't bend or distort the plate for the crank sensor or you will do it again. Make sure all the metal spacers are in the cover when you get it together, i've seen those things fall down and make the belt jump time. I see crank sensors go bad more often than a cam sensor. I have yet to see a computer go bad on one.

I installed the new crank sensobut it still turns code on. If I clear the code with the key on I can start and drive it without the check engine light coming on. Once I turn it off and restart it the codes come back. It must be in the wiring or computer? Any more ideas?

OOOOOK, I found a TSB about these codes today. It basically says that up to 2002 they used a different sensor ring for the cam sensor. 2002+ uses a different ring - the trick is the 02+ ring WILL work with the old -01 vehicles but not the other way around. I wrote down the part number for the correct part but I forgot it at work. ANYWAY this sounds promising.

I am done spending money on the car. Being it runs and drives good the way it is I put a piece of electric tape over the light and can not see it any more. Something I should have done before sticking time and money into it. The new sensors I bought for it had to be the right ones as I had to give the dealership the vin to order them. Hi RahX. I've been having the same issue with the cam shaft and crank shaft codes. I Changed both sensors to new ones and it's still on. You had mentioned something about rings for the camshaft. What are these rings called. I think that this will fix the problem because a mechanic recently told me that he ran accross this issue and it did the job. Could you please send me that part number or the name of the part.
