1998 Ranger battery drain

In need of some suggestions.

I have a 1998 Ranger 4x4 auto with the 4.0 engine. No power windows or locks. After market remote lock/start system installed. I am have intermittent problems of a dead battery. I mainly use the truck to drive to work. About 2 miles each way.

Here is all the info I know so far:

1. battery installed 11/07
2. battery and alternator check out good at O'Reily's
3. At full charge battery has 12.6 volt
4. With engine running showing 14.5 Volt
5. With key off, doors closed, light under hood removed showing a .26 Amp draw
6. Remove fuse 27 (I think that the correct one), listed as GEM Speedometer. Amp draw drops to .08 Amp

Seems like a high Amp Draw to me, but I am unsure of what the remote lock/start system would draw. This has just started in the last 6 weeks or so. Dead battery once or twice a week.

I know the battery is at the end of it's life span. Does it sound like that is what it is or am I missing something?

Any clues?

Thanks

Bill

Re: 1998 Ranger battery drain

A fully charged battery with the surface charge (what happens immediately after a battery's charged) drained off should read 13.8V, your battery is toast......Mike
