Wink Never mind figured it out

Well I just did this tonight and it worked I bought a second key fob on ebay for our 1999 SL2. I found this answer on someones elses forum Saturnfans.com/forums (thanks to spencerb) I saved a lot of money.

Here's how to program a new remote: Jumper pins 4 and 8 on the OBDII connector by the driver's left knee (I used a paper clip; may SURE you jumper the correct pins or very bad things could happen). You do not need the key in the ignition. Place the paper clip in the 4 and 8 jumper pins. You should hear a horn chirp, then hold the lock and unlock buttons on the fob until the horn honks (should be about 15 sec.), now hold the lock and unlock buttons on the second or third transmitter. The trasmitters are now programmed. Now pull out the paper clip and you should be good to go. This is valid for '97-99 S series with the Saturn Security System (I think).

All existing remotes will no longer work if not programmed with the others.

If you do buy a remote from ebay, made sure all the numbers match. Some remotes look exactly alike but they are not the same.

You need a Tech 2 tool to program the remote transmitters on the 2000 Impala. A dealer will have one of these or a reputable shop should as well. The dealer may do it for free for you, call around, but maybe not. If you had a Tech 2 tool the process follows:

The following procedure describes how to program the remote control door lock transmitters to the remote control door lock receiver using the Tech 2®.

Perform the following steps:

Connect the scan tool to the following components:
- An applicable power source

- The vehicle data link connector (DLC)

Turn the ignition ON.
At the application menu screen, select F0 (body control module).
At the body control module screen, select F2 (special functions).
At the special functions menu screen, select F3 (program key fobs).
Follow the directions on the scan tool display in order to program the transmitters.
Press EXIT repeatedly until you view the application menu screen.
Disconnect the scan tool from the following components:
- The accessory power port

- The vehicle DLC

Validate that all the transmitters that were programmed operate properly.

Re: Never mind figured it out

I saw the 8 pins of the connector near my left knee, and assumed (correctly) that it is numbered from left to right. Worked, just like you said... took about 12 sec. for the second "beep" to go.

Thank you
Doc
