Remote start not working

2906 Pontiac G6 - pretty blue
I just bought the car 6 months ago and winter is coming. When i push the door lock button followed by pushing the romote car start the car beeps 2 times and not start. If I do the same but hold the remote start then the car beeps 2 times and then starts beeping continually until I push the open door button.
My dad thinks it might the the hood lock-switch is not working but I dont know.
I want a remote start but with dealer costs it would be cheaper to have an entire unit installed at Cartunes. Dont know what to do, I have not gone to the dealer because I cant afford to spend 100 bucks just to find out I need to spend another 200 to fix. Dealers are just too expensive sometimes for these problems.

thanks
Amanda

Re: Remote start not working

1st thing to do is to call a local dealership and contact the parts department. Give them your VIN number to see if you have factory remote start installed. Many times dealers don't get the remotes when the car is traded in and they buy the remotes with the remote start button even though it doesn't have it.

If it doesn't then you surely need to seek the aftermarket segment to get it to work. Keep in mind that if it indeed does have remote start your range will only be about 200' in the real world which would make it useless unless you are always close to it.

BTW, a simple remote starter (with out keyless entry) should run around $175 to $200 installed. I charge about $185 for one with up to 2500' of range.

Re: Remote start not working

The remote vehicle start feature will not operate if any of the following occur:
• The remote start system is disabled through the DIC.
• The vehicle’s key is in the ignition.
• The vehicle’s hood is open.
• The hazard warning flashers are on.
• The check engine light is on. See Malfunction Indicator Lamp on page 3-40.
• The engine coolant temperature is too high.
• The oil pressure is low.
• Two remote vehicle starts have already been provided for that ignition cycle.
You can also find this information on page 2-9 of your owner’s manual. I would recommend contacting your local dealership for more specific information. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me directly. Thank you.

Tricia, GM Customer Service.

We just bought a 2007 G6 and it has remote start per the window sticker but it also will not work. I checked the DIC and it is set to on but when I press the unlock and then the start button on the fob, it does nothing. Ideas anyone?
Amanda, ever get your fixed?

Re: Remote start not working

The post by GM Customer Service, is right on....Any one of the things listed can prevent remote start....

Also Ponchonutty is correct.....you can go to ANY GM dealership, and ask for a print out of the "Vehicle Build" page......this will list all the SPID codes, and what they mean.....this will tell you if it has Remote start....

More often than not, a code is set, and as your father suggests, a hood latch problem could be the cause.....

As for Wlkjr, the system has to be armed......lock the vehicle with the remote while standing next to the vehicle.....wait a few seconds, then hit the LOCK button(not the UNLOCK button) again and then immediately, press and hold the START BUTTON.....

Remember, this can only be done twice, and it only lasts for 10 minutes of running time......Would always see Salesmen demonstrate remote start.....then have customer try it......and then later on, someone else comes along and tries the remote and it doesn't work.....after two tries, you need to start car with a key, to reset the system.....
