The real SLR

Ok, I don't normally go for threads like this but this is probably the best news I have heard in a very long time.
Revell are re-issuing the gorgeous 300SLR Uhlenhaut kit.

Sure it's just their regular racing 300SLR kit with the coupe body but this is one of my historic racing heroes.

Pure sex.

and surprise surprise, it's one that I've got on my "to finish" list.

Re: The real SLR

will be cool to make a little diorama with the old and the new.
It is also possible to convert this slr to make the roadster 722 driven by Sir Stirling Moss..

Re: The real SLR

Well, the 722 roadster car is still quite easy to get hold of despite being out of production.
I've been hunting for a back up Uhlenhaut kit for years.

Re: The real SLR

...darn...
I was going to say that it was regularly seen on ebay but I just had a look and only the two kit set is listed right now.

The 722 SLR was sold on it's own with that same image as the box art.
I recall it came solo as well as with some pots of paint as they do.

edit: also just found this one.

edit 2:

one of favourite things about the kit - the chassis

Re: The real SLR

ah ok, didint know it.
Anyway I also prefer the Uhlenhaut

all those old models from revell are still nice and well detailed, as well as the bmw 507..probably same period original moulds.
Surely the wheels will be a problem, as well as for all the other ones using Borrani wheels, a must in PE today.Probably 2 time more expensive then the kit.

Re: The real SLR

That chassis is fantastic - must be worth doing a full detail build without the body.

If only it wasn't so hard to find good detailed pics of the cars.
I'd taken to using photos of the W196 as well but they're not that easy to get hold of either.

Re: The real SLR

I'm sure I've seen a great cutaway drawing... I'll have a rummage around and see if I can find it...

Re: The real SLR

The 300 SLR cars are not the same as the regular 300SL cars; which are what those diagrams are of.

Re: The real SLR

I really like these kits too. The body is pretty frail though. I have two kits and both are broken at the pillars. I have thought about casting the body but probably won't now that it is being released again.
