Re: Miles till empty

Maybe your PCM knows your driving habbits.
It is only estimating it like the weather man does.
That is why they still have gas gauges on them.
But do not push your luck or run them on Empty.
People that run them low always replace more fuel pumps.

Re: Miles till empty

Looks like your getting an average of 19.45 miles/gal, if you have a 20 gal tank (389 mi divided by 20 gals). Check your owners manual on the capacity of your fuel tank.

If you have a 20 gallon tank, and get an average of 20 miles per gallon, it will show 400 miles till empty when you have a full tank. The better your average miles per gallon the better your distance till empty.

On a long trip I once saw 490 miles till empty. I was getting an ave of 24 mpg! No city, only freeway. Most of the time my miles are about half city & half freeway. Then I'm getting about 19.5 to 21.5 mpg (the better mpg is with more freeway than city).

When I first started driving a Town Car I put in 87 octain fuel. I got about 17.5 mpg. When I stepped up to Premium my mpg jumped up to 19.5 & 21.5. That move also got rid of the engine 'Ping', going up hills, and gave back that great 'get-up-n-go' power I had lost with the regular unleaded.

Also; Being fuelish, a couple of times, I ran it down to '0' miles till empty. I still went another 10 miles before I chickened out and filled up. I wanted to see how far I could go till true empty, however, decided I didn't want to hassle with the repressurizing and probable dirt sucked up into the system.

Re: Miles till empty

Yeah i looked at the booklet and saw 20 gal tank. Man i wish i could see 490 to a tank but that's not gonna happen to me lol on the freeway it puts an average 23.6 but in the city it's pretty bad at only 15-16 Could it be because of the Egr valve? it keeps throwing me the Check engine light and i checked the codes today and it spat out P0401 Oh yeah it's a 1995 executive series w/139K

Re: Miles till empty

most wanted, i'm a newbe here but my 95 tc HAS A K& N air filt BOSH +4 plugs and 235 x 75's all round, and consistantly gets 25+ mpg with half city and half highway, and our gas in colorado is only 85 octane w/ 10% ethanol.
of course half of our driving is up hill and half is downhill. love to see that 99 mpg going down hill. mike

Do a quick search and find my posts on code 0401. I will show you what I went thru to finally solve this code.

Start a New thread /post on your problem

Also pitch the bosh plugs in the trash and stick then K&N filter under rear wheel and back over it.
Foir starters.
Get a good set of Ac delco plugs and a good AC air filter.
Got any check engine on or flashing when driving or stored codes ?
Is your fuel pressure up to specd?

Re: Miles till empty

I had the check engine light on i took it to autozone and they told me it was my driver side cats. So i purchased a magnaflow bolt on with new bosch 02 sensors and the check engine light came off for about a week and now it only turns on sometimes. but i have never had the fuel pressure tested i will do that.

Confirm good fuel pressure.
Clear all codes and recheck for what code is coming back.

Pitch the bosh plugs in trash can.
They can lead to and cause cat problems and other problems
And if K & N filter at least clean it and go real easy on the oil.
Also clean or ckeck MAF air flow sensor.
K & N filter oil gets in it and sometimes migrates all of the way to 02 sensors.
That is why I always say pitch them when you are are having problems.
