speedometer

the speedometer doesnt work, and neither does the odometer ofcourse. but what exactly do i do. i feel like i dont kno what im talking about. but i need help cause the car has all these little problems and im only 17 and i just started taking automotie programs in school so i am trying to learn as much as i can. please help me. thanks

The speedometer is controlled by a cable. The areas you want to check are the cable and its connection points. Check where the cable goes into the transmission, there is also a gear at the end of the cable, it could be broken. Check where the cable goes into the gauge cluster, maybe it disconnected check the cable itself, it's possible that the cable itself has snapped.
