B16a Swap

Ok after thinking a bit. I have come to the conclusion it would be smarter and cheaper for me to do the swap myself.

My main concern is going from my dual carb to the fuel injection. I have no idea what wiring is involved.

I have been told its a pretty simple bolt in transfer. I currently have the dual carb 1493cc.

Does anyone have a site with a step by step guide of doing this? I am sure ive seen one...

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

make a custom manifold and run 2 bigger carbs on the b16, maybe like some older 2 barrel carbs or something would be nice..

I dont know about wiring from carbs to fuel injection so i thought i'd mention that ^^^^

Well I think you answered your own question, since the first two sentences of your post contradict each other.

If you aren't sure about what's involved/needed/suggested, then its neither "smarter" nor will it be "cheaper" to do it yourself.

I've seen many people go down the road you are considering, and it leads to headache and bankruptcy. Im not flaming you, just hate to see another guy give up on a project because of poor planning. Take it from me, it took me 2 years and a whole car to destroy before I finally learned my lesson.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you good luck with your project. Do it right the first time, and you'll be glad you did later.

Join the crowd....

Well, the only advice I'd give is that you make sure that you are really understand whats going to be involved. Also never hurts to have someone around who's done it before.

hmmmm
I will shop around first speak to my mechanic. I will buy the half cut first then work out whether I will install it myself or pay someone to do it....

If I were to do it myself.. Quite a few people I know have done engine swaps that could lend a hand.

Wat about you Setanta heheheh

his current setup has twin carbs, but im sure they wouldn't be sufficient for a b16

uh, he has a car that is wired up for a SOHC Carbed engine and is trying to convert it to fuel injection. I say it is an option to make a B16 manifold and use some different type of carb.

I KNOW THE B16 ISNT CARBED

its an option to keep the carb setup and use a b16 instead of converting the wiring to MPFI

you'd have to make your own manifold. It can be done (the carbed b16), but you have to take into account more tuning factors such as using aftermarket ignition setup since carbs arent computer controlled, as well as using aftermarket VTEC engagement

The level of ignorance in this thread is fucking amazing. Bolt carbs onto a B16A? How the fuck are you supposed to control VTEC 91civicDXdude???

First off, he wants to unbolt the D15 ECU controlled twin Keihin carb setup that came factory standard in ALL Aussie GLs. We never got a single carb D15. THEN, he wants to bolt in a B16A and tranny and swap in the OBD1 ECU.

Rufus1: It's not a straight swap, your mounts wont work, nor will your driveshafts. The person that told you it's a straight swap is just trying to flog off a front cut as a quick sale. You need custom engine mounts. US companies do them and you can get them from Croydon Autosports at Silverwater NSW. They cost about 600 bucks Aussie though. If you get the front cut then you get brakes, axles etc, but the SiR/XSi you get it from runs a different engine bay and also different control systems (sway bars etc) that will not bolt up - nor will the cross members - hence the need for the custom mounts.

Talk to Chuck (B16A4ME) as he did the swap into a 3rd gen Civic and is now running a CRVTEC varient with Toda cams etc. He's based somewhere in Sydney and should be able to help out.

Cheers
