1998 GMC K2500 5.7L fuel pump question

I have a 1998 GMC K2500 with a 5.7L and I want to change my fuel pump as it is really making alot of noise and want to change it before it goes out.

I was checking parts houses online and I see that 2 pumps are listed under my application, 1 with 1 electrical connector and 1 with 2 electrical connector.

I would like to find out which my pickup has so I can get the part before I drop the tank and tear into it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: 1998 GMC K2500 5.7L fuel pump question

GM is famous (infamous?) for putting different pumps in their same model year vehicles. I would take your VIN number to a dealer and he can fix you up with the correct pump. It will cost you, but you won't be dropping the tank again in six months. If the pump comes with a new connector, be sure to use it because many pumps have been changed because the plug has corroded and burnt.

Hey neighbor: Go to the AC-Delco store on Mattley Lane in Reno. It's just off of Vassar on the east end.

Definitely have your VIN with you. Much better prices than the dealer's.

Good luck..........Steve in Maybe

Re: 1998 GMC K2500 5.7L fuel pump question

I also have a 1998 5.7L, though my truck is a K1500.

My OEM pump died at about 100k miles a few years back. I replaced it with a non-OEM pump. BAD MISTAKE! I had HUGE ongoing fuel pump problems with THREE non-OEM replacement pumps.

My problems all disappeared when I finally decided to be sure and use OEM pump. Everything has been fine now, no sputtering.

Bottom line - use an OEM pump!
