brake shoes 1984 fi50

I broughtbrake shows for back on 1984 f 150 4 wheel drive inline 6 cy. does the long shoe goes toward the back or front of the truck . people telling me different things ty ed

The long shoe goes toward the back. The short shoe goes toward the front. Actually it's the lining that is shorter or longer, but you know that.

Like said, long to back always. The rear show hitting the drums is what actually pushes the assembly around and hits the front two, wrong way and they don't work well.

Think of leaving the parking brake on in your truck then taking off. It moves pretty easy backing out of the driveway, but reverse direction and they hold alot better. If you were to put them on back ward it would be the opposite, would work better in reverse than forward, not good....

True, true, but I think the best way to remember for future reference is the way I learned: Big shoe - Back shoe

Another good thing to do is to always disassemble your brakes one side at a time. That way, when you have a question about how they go together, you look at the side you didn't take apart yet.

I just lay everything(shoes, springs etc.) down on the floor kind of under the vehicle on the same side and top, farther from me, bottom, closer to me, just as they came off. Always works great for me.

I only do one side at a time, but I never had to look at the other side to reassemble.
