Honda Civic SiR II

Hi all.
First off I would just like to say that I am not new to automotive modeling, but I have been away from this hobby for quite some time pursuing other hobbies and interests, Tropical fish, racing speedway, building show cars, and most recently R/C aircraft. I still have an interest in this hobby and as I have a large collection of unbuilt kits in my closet
I thought I would give this ago.
In the past I have mainly built Hotrods and racecars, but have a bad habit of getting over involved in modifying the kit and adding too much detail taking a long time to complete the kit and getting bored or sidetracked with another project. I have decided to keep this one simple. And sticking to the basic kit
I have chosen to build the Fujimi Honda civic SiR II kit

Kit.jpg

The inspiration for this project comes from my 1:1 Civic EK 3

So far I have cleaned up the body, given it a sand and a coat of primer.

I have also begun assembling the floor pan, this has been given a coat of primer and satin black, I have begun to pick out the detail with Corresponding paint.

Re: Honda Civic SiR II

Thanks ChristopheB

As I have said the aim of this build is to keep it simple, there will however be a few deviations from the box kit, one being the wheels. I have choosen to fit a set of Fujimi Versus EU's

I am also considering trying to reproduce the projector headlamps an clear tail lamps on my 1:1

Good luck, one thing you can do with the taillights is to drill out for the centers and use aluminum tubing for them. With drops of clear red or yellow in them to replicate the altezzas.

Yep that idea for the tail lamps was about what I was thinking of and finishing it of with bare metal foil before glueing in the lens

Re: Honda Civic SiR II

Progress so far, I have trial fitted the wheels to check the stance of the model

The main interior part has been prepped and painted in the main color Tamia Grey XF 77. Seats and accent panels will be painted in Tamia light gray XF 80. I have also painted the instrument surround and center dash panel in matt black, unfortunately the paint was a bit yuck and didn't work out as well as I would want so I will redo this when I can get a now bottle of Matt black. (Nearest model shop is a three-hour drive) Once this is done I will add the instrument decals and cover with crystal clear. I am also going to pick out the heater vent detail with a thinned wash of black just to add some detail.

The backs of the seats are hollow so to solve this problem I glued a piece of plastic card in and smoothed with filler, head rests next and light grey paint with grey back panels

No I don't think so I think the camera has done something strange, I agree they look a little big in the pic but in person they don't?

Re: Honda Civic SiR II

Hi, I'm building Civic EK9 Type R right now, it has the same interior as yours.
So I think maybe you should add a "Little touch of black" to it, to the vents, to the steering wheel.
Also I think that those speakers on the rear shelf should be painted black too.

Re: Honda Civic SiR II

Hi Scrible
I agree about the speakers, at the moment if you didn't know that they are speakers they could be anything. I just had a look at the 1:1 and it has lots of holes in the grille but they are grey, will have to have a think about that one.
On my 1:1 the heater vents and steering wheel are all dark grey. I am going to add a thin black wash over the vents just to add some depth and detail. I an going to flock the floor in black and there will be a black gear lever boot THe light grey has turned out a little lighter than I would have liked, in the pics they look white, photo was taken a night under lights, it is a little greyer than has shown up.

Re: Honda Civic SiR II

Next up I am adding the gear lever, handbrake lever and foot pedals.
The gear lever supplied with the kit is for an automatic trans, so I hunted through the parts box and came up with a lever that I can modify to work. It has the wrong style of boot, but the base dimensions are spot on, so with some reshaping it will be perfect.

There are no foot pedals supplied at all in the kit. I have some detail master pedals so will use these

The folds in the boot were carefully removed with a needle file, next I will fill the remaining folds with body filler and file and sand to shape

Re: Honda Civic SiR II

For the taillights, Revell's EK hatch had altezzas, just a thought. Nice engine bay on your 1:1!
