Keyless Entry Programming 1993

I just purchased a 1993 TownCar and it was missing a number of things including the remote controller. I didn't even know if it was supposed to have remotes so it took a while to determine that it was supposed to have them. So.... I found a vendor that sells the remotes which included both the batteries and the instructions for programming them. Everything worked perfectly, so I am providing the info here to make it easier for other people and they won't have to spend several weeks trying to figure it all out.

I bought two remotes from IKeyless.com for $76.86 total. The SKU# is "FOR 070"... but you can look it up on their web site. You can probably get them cheaper elsewhere, but make sure they will have batteries and programming instructions. Some vendors sell you the remote, but no battery, and no instructions..... they tell you to go to a dealer to get them programmed.

The chart that came with the remotes provides instructions for a number of different applications. In case of a 1993 TownCar... the remote is type 3, instruction set H.... or "H3" in the chart.

The page is printed with such small type that I had to use a magnifying glass to read it..... so here are the instructions...

Turn Ignition switch to RUN or ACC.
(I used ACC ... counterclockwise one click.. because it is easier)

Momentarily jump pins in programming connector located behind the glove box.
(I connected one small clip lead to each pin and laid them on the floor for easy access)

All doors will lock and then unlock to confirm the programming mode.

Press any button on 1st transmitter.

Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.

Press any button on 2nd transmitter.

Repeat- Up to four transmitters total possible.

Turn Ignition to OFF.

Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.


To access the programming connector, I removed the glove box.... three screws along the bottom edge of the glove box UNDER the dash (not inside the box), after the screws are removed, twist/rotate the box slightly to get the two ear-stops at the top to clear the dash... the box will come off. Don't force it.... use a little finesse.

The connector is gray, oval and tied down to a support in the upper right area of the opening behind the glove box. It is the only open connector in that area that I could see.

You can simply connect the two pins with any metal tool that fits in the connector, but it is hard to reach, and you need to focus on the programming up top... so IMOP it's better to hook a couple of clip leads (Radio Shack) to each pin and cross (connect) them at the necessary moment. Remember.... this is a "momentary" contact..... you only need to connect the pins for an instant. You will hear the locks cycle when you get it right.

Also-....this is for a 1993.... other years have the connector in a different location.... and may have different programming instructions.

Cool... but their service is not free.... I just tried it.. they charge for instructions. This is great if you already have the remote though.
