Question 2000 malibu woes

#1-The driver side brake cable on my car is making a popping noise when i stop.
was wondering if anyone had the same problem and how to fix it.

#2-The radio/cd player not working well. first of all the fm raido doesn't get good recepton, and the am doesnt work at all...the cd player will play a cd fine, then after a few minutes it starts skipping (no i dont have scratches on my cds, this was on a new cd) then when you take the cd out and put it back in, it starts all over again..its weird..

#3- the gas milage on my car really sucks, It gets about 18 mpg or less.
i was wondering if there was any way to get better milage.
I just had new spark plugs/ wires put on the car and i was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.

Any suggestions would be great...
Thanks

Well, I don't know about the first two problems, but as for gas mileage, new spark plugs is a good start. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and that the air and fuel filters are clean. How many miles does your car have? As your car accumulates miles (like over 100,000) the gas mileage will worsen.

The only brake cable you have is your E-brake. Everything is hydraulic. The only thing that comes to mind is that your caliper is may be causing the popping because its on the verge of seizing.

Your antenna may not be properly plugged in back of your radio. That would explain bad reception. As for the CD, try cleaning the lazer with one of those cd cleaners. The ones with the brushes on it. If that doesn't help then your lazer is probably out of alignment. Fixing it isn't worth it. Buy a new one.

Everything Century said plus check for vaccum leaks. A cracked hose can cut your fuel mileage in half but may not trigger any codes until it gets real bad.

The radio reception problem is usually the antenna plug in the floor behing the passenger's carpet. See this previous topic for a better description of the problem and fix.

As far as the gas mileage is concerned, as mentioned above, tire pressure is a big killer. I would suggest going two to three pounds over what is listed on the rear driver's door placard. This is usually an easy way to add about 2 mpg.
