Oil Filter

How do you take the cap off of the oil filter housing. I have tried a strap wrench and those special "caps". Both broke! The local oil change place also broke the "claw" tool they were using. Please help! It is a 2000 Intrigue 3.5.

Re: Oil Filter

Sounds like you may have already tried to use one but you need a filter wrench that fits on a 3/8 ratchet.

Theres been a lot of discussion as to which is the right size, but I believe its 74mm with 15 flutes.

I ordered this exact one many years ago, and it fits tight enough that it frequently gets stuck on:

The local parts store probably has something similar, but they may not always be made of top notch materials, some of the ones Ive handled in stores feel very plastic-like. That one is at least made of metal.

But a wrench like that is the only thing you'll ever get it off with. Not saying the one I have is the best in the world, but I do know it works.
