1994 Cougar- Rear Coil Spring Replacement
1994 Cougar- 97,000 miles
While doing a brake job on the rear, I found the coil spring broken on the driver's side. I picked up a new pair of springs, but am having trouble getting the old ones off. The Chilton manual calls for the use of "Rotunda Spring Cages 086-00031". I asked around, but no one seemed to have heard of them either. I went back to my car, set the frame on jackstands, and started getting ready to do the job without the cages. I unbolted the lower shock mount and lowered the control arm assembly as far as it would go. There is still not enough room to even get the broken spring out (well, I suppose I could pry it out, but I'm still going to have to put the new one in). It looks like I'm going to need those "spring cages" or else I'm going to have to take the entire lower control arm off. Does anyone know where I can find these spring cages, or something similar?

Re: 1994 Cougar- Rear Coil Spring Replacement
Well, I've tried using compressors that go on the outside of the spring, barely enough room to use them. I can't get the spring compressed enough to remove it. Well, I'm sure I can get it out, but I'll have to get the new ones in, too.
I also tried using a scissor-type compressor, but that is even more awkward to use, I just don't have enough room to get in there and compress the spring sufficiently. How do I do this?
