Fuel Injection to carb fuel pump??

I have a dumb question, is there any problem using the Bosch fuel injection pump when switching to a carb? I would not have a return fuel line I guess, so is there any possibility of damaging the Bosch pump if its dead headed without a return line? I would add a fuel pressure regulator of course to get the pressure down to carb pressure requirements.
Thoughts?
Paul

Didnt try this Paul but expect it would be to high a pressure and yes would most likely kill the pump.

I used a Carter 100 GPH 7psi pump, the filter that was in the car with the injection and added a regulator up front. I have used these Carter pumps before and they have proved to be very reiable especially given thier very resonable price. Dont be fooled into buying an expensive brand name pump. There are quite a few unreliable "lemon" pumps out there...............

Re: Fuel Injection to carb fuel pump??

Paul, Aeromotive makes a regulator that is specifically designed to allow a carb to be used with an EFI pump. Bob Gassie and I are using this regulator on our cars and it works great with the Bosch pump. Leave the fuel lines in there as they are and just plumb this in. It's not cheap but it makes this part of the conversion simple.

Thanks guys, I was worried that dead heading the stock pump was a bad idea. Thanks

Re: Fuel Injection to carb fuel pump??

Yep pressure will be too high and it's an expensive pump to replace in the future. We used a Holley electric pump and 650 carb, Performer manifold, MSD6 and MSD distributor and regulator from a GTS....all runs great finally.

Basically copied the GTS set up and added 351W Aluminum heads (had an old set) to the Explorer engine. Runs good. I use this car for friends to mess around at the track on track days. Limited the rpm to 5200 to try to keep things together for a while. Would be great fun with a 7000 rpm small block Ford. Would give the GTS a run for its money.

Hi Paul, I have a new in the box Aeromotive regulator that I bought for using the Bosch pump with a carburetor. I think I have this one, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-13202/
but it may be this one,
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-13109/

At any rate I can check tomorrow and will sell it to you for 1/2 price, if you are interested.

Re: Fuel Injection to carb fuel pump??

I went with the Hollet Blue pump. A fuel injection pump puts out way to much pressure and without a return line it will put too much pressure on the pump and burn it out quickly.

Eric, the GT-RA cars have a return line so using the proper regulator with the Bosch pump is pretty easy. I''m hoping that it may even keep the fuel cooler since it's able to cycle through easily.

yeah the WC's have a return line as well. And yes the lower pressures will keep the fuel cooler i bet!

Do you still have the Aeromotive regulator? I'd be interested in buying it from you.
