97 Monte Alarm and dash lights

Hi i have a 97 Monte Carlo ls and the alarm was not being used but now goes off when i open the doors and the dash lights dont work. The lights do work when the alarm is going off though. is this related or just coincidence?

My dash lights only come on once in a while and when they do they only stay on for a few minutes, making night driving diffacult. could this be a bad light switch?

Jeff , your problem could be the headlight switch as it controls the automatic operation of the headlights as well as dash cluster and other interior lighting . I'd check it first , good luck !

my problem was in fact a faulty headlight switch. The switch was grounding out causing the headlight breaker to trip.

i have a 99 monte carlo with a similar issue my headlights work just fine its the dash lights which dont work. anybody have any idea what it could be? i will check the switch and i checked the fuses but no blown fuses except for the cig lighter fuse. the turn signal lights and info lights work (check engine, oil, volt) as well. if anybody has any idea what it could be id appreciate any info

Allegretto What my car was doing was: Auto running lights working fine, dash lights not working, but check engine, abs etc. working fine, radio lights not working at night or when i turn the lights on. A new complete headlight switch solved my problem i found one on ebay for $30+ shipping. For $37 i took the chance. Headlight Switch its for a lumina but the part numbers are the same "ACDELCO Part # D1543F" They also have it for $98 on Rockauto.
