If you have 2 subs you are running a 4 ohm load already.

What kind of subwoofer is that? A singe voice coil 8ohm car audio driver is highly unusual.

Need more info. What kind of sub and amp do you have (brand, model, specs)?

it's a pioneer GM-X572 400 watt amp that puts out 200 watts @ 4 ohms, peak power at 400. the sub, is an older rockford fosgate 10'' punch that is 100 watt rms, 200 watt max and wants that 8 ohms of resistance. I'm not exactly strapped for cash, but this is clearly a money saving solution to my bass lacking problem.

The only way to wire that sub by itself to push the most watts you can into it is if you bridge across the amp. This will give you about 75 x 1 @ 8-ohms. If you have 2 subs, then you can bridge them both across the amp giving you 150 x 2 @ 4-ohms, into two subs which will be 75 watts to each sub, but you will get better bass, because you have two subs instead of one. If you have enough space, use a bandpass box cuz they give you more bass at the cost of lower bass frequencies. That won't matter since the old subs don't go down as low as the newer ones. Any more questions, just ask.

so i should just scrap this sub and get a little something newer. It's a small car so not a lot of bass is needed. I was considering getting a basslink just to simplify everything - whats the break down on those?

My personal suggestion for that amp and for a car needing little bass
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=3291

Do that in a ported or sealed box

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't go with Audiobahn. I've had Audiobahn and they are completely over-rated. Their amps are sweet, but I wouldn't buy any of their subs. If you just want a little bass, the go with some MTX, Pioneer, Kenwood, a lower series of Rockford. I've also heard some Audio Art that sound pretty good and don't put out too much bass.

I would avoid pioneer and kenwood personally, Kenwood has awesome amps, but the subs I have heard of theirs really sucked. Pioneer is ok, but not a higher quality. I have had great experience from my audiobahn 15s they are fast loud and clean.

Well yeah, but 15's are totally different than 10's, as are 12's also. Since he wants only a little bit of bass, and he can prolly fit a bandpass box, then the Kenwood Excelons would do great, and so would Pioneer Premeirs. Pioneer had the subs that looked like they were diamond plated almost and they were excellent. The only reason I don't recommend Audiobahn is that I've had too many problems with speaker quality. They have great sound quality but the subs are built cheaply. You might even want to look into some Kicker, Infinity Reference or Perfects, maybe some JL's. JL gives you the best bang for your buck.

The pioneer is actually a good sub to go with for what he wants. A little bass and a sub that doesn't take too much to power it. You can wire the Pioneer itself to 2-ohms and if you get two then one per channel and you'll be pushing 150 watts to each sub which is plenty for each one. I know it says 250 RMS and 500 MAX, but with a bandpass box the bass will hit harder than normal, giving you the sound you desire. I mentioned the Kenwood as a quality sub, since you said that you wouldn't go with Kenwood because they suck. These Kenwood wouldn't go with the amp he has to push them, because they would suck the juice outta the amp and still want more, but those Pioneers don't take as much and will handle just fine.
