Head Gasket Replacement?

I've recently purchased a Mitusbishi Eclipse 97.

My vehicle is burning oil and creating smoke out the exhaust

I just had my valve seals redone because that's what I thought my problem was, turns out after a compression check, the mechanic told me that it was my O-Rings,(Something involving my head gasket) and that it had to be sent to a machine shop and the whole thing would cost me close to $2000!

I was wondering if someone could point in me the direction to buying all the parts on my own so that I can only pay for the labor.
(I'm not mechanicly inclined enough to take apart an entire engine block)

Can someone please give me a list of parts that would be required for my vehicle?

Vehicle:
Mitsubishi Eclipse 97 GS 2.0 Chrysler.

Update 12:39 Sept 1 2010: I found this stuff on the internet called Steel Seal, could this be a possible temporary solution till I save up enough money?
Update 1:27 Sept 1 2010: Is this all I need?

Update on whole situation:
Just got back from my local mechanic. He says my car's Piston rings are broken, which would cost more than the car was worth to take apart and put back together.

He did advise me to find a new engine, and if I could find a new engine he could install another one to replace my current engine, and it would be still be cheaper than an overhall.

So now: Does anyone know where I can get a:
2.0 L 16-valve DOHC Chrysler 420A engine
?

Update 4:09 PM:
Will this work?

Re: Head Gasket Replacement?

I personally wouldnt trust any pour in, fix in a bottle type things. And I wouldnt pay 2 grand for a rebuild. If its just the headgasket, you could replace just that, which would still be somewhat pricey and labor intensive. I would buy a used engine.
