1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator

This is the AMT kit and I have yet to see a completed one here. I painted it a couple of years ago and have finally got round to finishing it apart from some finishing touches to the engine bay.

This one fought me all the way! The fit of everything was extremely vague and it needed lots of modifications to get it to look anywhere near convincing!

I built it pretty much oob and used the more sporty wheel/tyre combination that came with the kit and made some exhaust tips using metal from a wine bottle top and hood pins with wire. I left off the rear spoiler and lowered the stance a bit.

Overall I am pretty pleased with the result but still not happy with the badly fitting bumpers and hood. If I build another I may try some extreme modficiations with the bumpers to get them to fit better!

Really cool looking model!

I had the same fit problems with the kit, my interior bucket was too long, and I mean too long and it hit the rear bumper setup!

Looks great; I have a friend building one and he's been complaining a lot about how poorly the fit is on just about everything.

Despite the fit problems I think you made one very good looking model. The shine is excellent and the hood pins really add a muscle look. Stance and colour are great.

Thanks for the positive comments all! Would like to see the results of your friend's version when it is finished ZoomZoomMX-5.

I still can't decide whether to add the boot spoiler or not, I think I will build it up, try fitting it then decide!

Added some engine pic's. Again, built as it came with the kit apart from adding some wiring.

Wow! However ill-fitting the kit is, I think you've made a stunning job of it - that's just lovely!!

What paint/clear did you use, the paintjob looks flawless!

Really like that!!

Beautiful build and paint my friend, you did a terrific job on this, the only thing I don't like is the size of the outer edge on the rims, takes away from the actual nice look of the rim. Other than that, it is awesome!!!

Looks real good! I hate AMT kits, I never have good luck with them.

Looks great. Super clean finish. Perhaps you could make the spoiler removable and try some alternative wheels?

I have one on the go and know all about the fit issues!

Thanks Keef! I used Halfords aerosol paint 'Rover Opaline Green' and Halfords clear too.

Thankyou Modelfan, I hadn't noticed the outer edge of the rims but since you have mentioned it I can see it too and it has been bugging me ever since! I decided to try some '67 Mustang rims instead because they look very similar to the 1970 Eliminator rims on some that I have seen except that the infil triangular sections are smooth on the Eliminator, I should really have filled the recesses on the Mustang rims but for now I have just painted the centres in a gunmetal colour.

As is usual when I try to do anything with this model it has given me grief! When I removed one of the front wheels the hub part snapped off necessitating a repair!

I also drilled a couple of very small holes in the front grille just below the hood so that I could add some wires to the hood pins for a bit more detail.

Below are some pic's of the changes, typically I'm not sure if I prefer the rims or not now but it is certainly staying as it is for a while now. Rear boot spoiler next!
