91 dakota sport with 2.5
what do you guys think / know about these. a freind of mine has 1 thats been sitting for 2-3 yrs with a blown head gasket that im thinking of getting from him. he only wants what he has put into it for parts around $150. How is the motor in the truck

The 2.5 is an AMC 2.5 Engine.
Look up AMC 2.5 Engine on Google and get an idea about that engine. Those engines are OHV (overhead valves with Pushrods) Not your typical timing belt engine with Overhead cam. I have the same engine. So far I am having good luck with mine. But I hear some complaints the cental located cam bearings can have have problems. spend the $20 bucks and buy the repair manuals on that truck to get an idea what it is like. There are also a few bolts on that engine that have torx bits instead of socket driven bolts. Also notice the intake manifold and exhaust manifold are on the same side of the engine. They share the same Gasket. |

2.5 Jeep engine was put in Dakotas starting in 1996. Previous years it was the same base eng used in passenger cars.

the motor in this truck has a timing belt. i havent bought the truck yet i wont be buying it till janerary
