Thumbs down 98 Lumina Change oil soon light

I have a 98 chevy Lumina 3.1 v6 When i start the car my change oil soon light is on But after about 30-40 seconds it turns off everytime, My oil change is not due for another 3k miles can anyone tell me why my light turns on?

dont know i just bought it off a guy last saturday and took it to firestone on sunday they did a complete check nothing wrong also had it emmisions checked so they read the obdII for codes no codes

I would read the owner's manual for valuable info to start with, when changing the oil, the oil life monitor is reset by turning the ign on, do not start the engine, step on the gas pedal 3x to the floor in 5 seconds.

I was curious about the interval when it comes back on, i thought it was 7000 miles (so, not so much as a reminder to change the oil, but a warning to change the oil)

however, alldata says the pcm determines when the light comes on by mileage AND driving habits.
