2001 GMC safari stalling!!

I do not have too mcuh information at the moment. But i was asked a interesting question.

2001 GMC safari.

a couple check engine lights. misfire, ckp error circuit A??, transmission circuit somethign.. forgot.. i just know the last code was p0701.

anyways, here's the funny part. The vehicle will start no problem. it can go into reverse and reverse. it can go into P or N and idle there or even throttle. The only thing you cannot do is put the vehicle into "D". the second you put the vehicle into D it will stall.

what was changed from my understanding is spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, crank sensor.

THe only thing they didn't tackle was the transmission code or p0701. Would that be the culprit here? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!

Re: 2001 GMC safari stalling!!

Was the crankshaft variation re-learn performed after the crankshaft position sensor was replaced? Any time the sensor is moved in its mount or replaced, the re-learn must be done with a capable scan tool. (The cheapie $200 code scanners that the auto parts stores use are not capable of performing the re-learn.)

Re: 2001 GMC safari stalling!!

but from my understanding if it is this. The car wouldn't even start if it was the crank sensor on newer car it wouldn't even crank.

but i will find out if they did. it idles even after they changed it so i assume it was done.

It will start and run, but it will run poorly AND set a DTC in memory and turn on the SES.

Re: 2001 GMC safari stalling!!

Okay. So they had that done..

the vehicle only stalls when it goes into D. reverse is fine .. you can drive around town in reverse with no problems. the second you put the transmission into D it stalls. Any ideas?

I'm completely lost on this one.. haha

Re: 2001 GMC safari stalling!!

Possibly a loose connection in a wire harness to the engine. The engine torques the opposite direction in reverse and drive. If there's a loose motor mount, it can allow the engine to lift higher than it should which might be stretching an harness..
