01 Jetta key and fob
I need a second key and fob for my car. I can't seem to find a straight answer. There are uncut key blanks on Ebay for very reasonable prices. There are also used fobs. There is some discussion about a chip in the switchblade end of the key. My car is an early 01 (built 12/00). Can I buy a blank key and get it cut then buy a used fob and program it myself?

Re: 01 Jetta key and fob
Yes you can buy the blank, have it cut(by a certified locksmith), then add to used fob with the correct fcc code.
What I find the easiest to do is buy from dealer and have them program it. You usually spend about $50 more to have dealer do it properly. Hope this helps! Franco |
