Terrible Rattling sound!

I have a 95 Sonoma that has this terrible rattling noise when I push the gas peddle to accelerate, and the noise subsides when it changes into gear. But every time I need to accelerate, you can hear this crazy sound, underneath like where the exhaust might be. I checked under the truck to see if anything might be loose, but everything is tight. Also the truck has like no power. The engine is a 2.2. Going up a hill, I have the pedal almost to the floor and she barely does 30 mph. Any one have any Ideas?
Thanks, legotech7.

Any codes or check engine lights?

Beat on the cat and see if it is lose inside.

Run a engine vacuum check for exhaust back pressure.

Post back engine vacuum at idle and at 2K RPM.

If less at 2k than idle you have a restricted exhaust system.

Re: Terrible Rattling sound!

I have this same problem on my 95 4x4 vinW. Rattles while gasing then once it shifts it stops. vacuum might be a issuse due to pretty sure my brake booster is bad. Hear a hissing sound when hitting the break under my dash. But I also have the loss of power, just did a tune up on it to. so spark plugs wires and air filter are good and of course oil and oil filter.

Re: Terrible Rattling sound!

So, did you resolve the noise issue? And if so, how?
