Crank Shaft Censor

I have a 1999 Chevy s10 4.3 Ltr V6 that has a tough time with it's first start of the day especially in the cold. I was told that there was a known problem with the Crank Shaft Censor and it was a relatively easy fix. Does anyone have a link to a diagram or can explain where to look for the censor and what it takes to change it. I am okay around an engine but not a lot of experience with this particular model, mostly in japanese imports only.

Thanks for the help

Re: Crank Shaft Censor

The crankshaft position sensor is located at the front of the engine, passenger side, at the vibration dampener. If there's a problem with it, a DTC will be set in memory and the SES light will come on. Whenever the crankshaft position sensor is moved in its mount, removed, or replaced, the crankshaft position variation must be performed on the ECM. It requires a high end scan tool to perform the re-learn. The run of the mill cheapie scan tools can't do it. Scan tools capable of performing the re-learn start around $1500.00 So unless you're sure there's a problem with the sensor, leave it alone

Your description is a classic symptom of low fuel pressure. Key on, engine off, fuel pump running: Fuel pressure must be 60psi to 66psi and must remain above 55psi for 3 to 5 minutes after the fuel pump shuts off.
